The City

The smell of fresh leaves and car fumes. The gaze into the bright sky surrounded by tall buildings. Spring closes the door for a cold grey city. It opens the door to a warm, happy and alive city. New York City from my perspective, a product designer who was born and raised here.

Bushwick, Brooklyn. Back when I was in Junior high and high school was a different place. Some might say shady, dark, but alive.  The L train was the road to Manhattan for most of us, easy and fast.

In high school, I spend most of my time on the Upper West side, where my school is. Now surrounded by different buildings. It took me about an hour to get there, but I did not mind. I loved being in Manhattan. The constant view of people and the business of the city made me feel at ease somehow, kept me busy.

I took four years off, to go to college, Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island, to study Engineering. I missed the city while I was gone. The city of Providence was so small you could walk it in 20 minutes. Though I had many friends and things to do, I always imagined coming back.

After graduating with a degree in Engineering and Design, I moved back to the same neighboorhood, to find out how expensive it was and how many people there it. Bushwick is buzzing with growth.

I do not know if I will continue to stay in Bushwick, maybe move to another neighborhood, or city. But I know that where ever I go, I will always somehow come back.
